New camera

I’ve been thinking about getting a digital SLR camera ever since I first heard they were making them. Back then, all digital cameras were prohibitively expensive and I made do with a borrowed Kodak when I wanted to take the odd digital snapshot. The Kodak was heavy and big as an old vcr, went through batteries like mice through cheese, and it took tiny, blurred pictures that barely fit its standard 8Mb CF card. I still have some of those pictures, notably from MOMA in New York. They really don’t help remembering what was I taking photos of.
Time’s moved, consumer marketing has come along and cameras have gone down in price, so last week I took the plunge and bought my third generation camera. After the blurry Kodak and an early Canon Digital Ixus that I bought new in Finland years ago, this time I opted for a Canon EOS 300D off eBay. The camera came with all the accesories I’ll ever need: 2 lenses, a tripod, a bag… even a remote shutter release. I love eBay - prices can be very low, stuff mostly just works and you always get a couple of extras thrown in for naught.
I’ve been taking pictures ever since. Tests, mostly, and the inmortalization of a couple of happy coincidences. Here’s a selection of my first masterpieces from my Flickr page.
