Mila and Robin got married in Salamanca. As ever, Katia and I jumped at the opportunity to join our good friends on their happiest day, especially when they decided to tie the knot in Spain -good weather, good food, etc- and on a weekday -must take a couple of days off, sorry… (wink wink)
We stayed at the Plaza del Angel hotel, just off Salamanca’s main square, hailed by many -including most of my family, born and raised there- as Spain’s most beautiful public space. The hotel was nothing special, making the 4 stars rating on location rather than service or comfort, but we weren’t planning on staying in it anyway and it was certainly convenient as a base.
Salamanca’s yearly ferias, the local street festival, were going on, so on top of the wedding celebrations we had casetas (outdoor outposts run by the local bars serving specialty tapas and a drink for €1.50) and street entertainment on tap. We even had fireworks, traditionally a much more coastal occurence, disturbing the peace of the massive colony of bats that inhabit the top of the old cathedral.
All in all a great time in great company. We’ll be back.
